Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has facilitated ICICI Lombard in implementing a fully automated multi-region Disaster Recovery (DR) on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud.
This development positions ICICI Lombard among the first insurance firms in India to achieve such resilience, aimed at ensuring continuity during unexpected disruptions.
The DR solution employs an automation-first, infrastructure-as-code methodology, utilising AWS-native technologies for intelligent, automated failover of critical systems. This reduces manual intervention and minimises downtime.
ICICI Lombard technology and health (underwriting and claims) chief Girish Nayak said: “With resilience at the core of our digital operating model, and TCS as our strategic technology partner, we’ve been able to transform our disaster recovery capabilities into a truly agile, automated and cloud-native setup.
“This not only enhances our readiness for unexpected infrastructure disruptions but also reinforces our commitment to uninterrupted service to our customers.”
Operating on AWS Cloud since 2021, ICICI Lombard strengthened its business continuity and geographical redundancy with this scalable DR setup, supported by TCS’s domain expertise and knowledge of the insurer’s systems.
TCS developed the solution using a data-driven serverless architecture tailored for large-scale orchestration. This approach enhances operational resilience and decreases recovery time, setting a benchmark for automated disaster recovery within the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector.
Since 2006, TCS has served as the strategic IT partner for ICICI Lombard, managing its datacenter operations from 2013 and supporting its transition to a public cloud environment in 2021. Currently, TCS is involved in modernising ICICI Lombard’s systems through Project Orion, deploying TCS BaNCS Insurance as part of this initiative.
TCS president and India business country head Ujjwal Mathur said: “This engagement highlights our commitment to helping clients achieve next-generation resilience through cloud-native innovation.
“This intelligent, automation-led DR solution sets a new benchmark for BFSI organisations by enabling seamless, fast and scalable disaster recovery with zero touch.”
TCS BaNCS for Insurance offers a suite covering diverse insurance functions such as customer management, claims management, and policy administration, along with a digital suite tailored to specific needs. TCS’ role in the BFSI sector includes partnerships with major banks, insurance firms, and investment entities globally.
