State Street and UC Investments have announced a partnership aimed at providing individuals with access to sophisticated investment tools traditionally reserved for large institutions.

The collaboration seeks to integrate advanced investment technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to broaden access to a variety of investment opportunities, including private markets.

UC Investments is the investment arm of the University of California.

The initiative will introduce a digitally enabled “superapp,” which will offer personalised financial services to 353,000 participants in UC Investments’ defined contribution plan.

This platform is designed to enhance financial literacy and tailor investment experiences for users. Plans are underway to eventually extend these services to University of California’s wider community, including its students and living alumni.

The partnership aims to transform the investor experience by simplifying access to private markets through AI-driven platforms. By providing these advanced tools, both UC Investments and State Street hope to trandform how individuals manage their financial futures.

State Street chairman and CEO Ron O’Hanley said: “This alliance strengthens our enduring relationship with UC Investments. It reflects our mutual commitment to harnessing technology and innovation to enhance financial outcomes for individual investors and their families.”

State Street, a global asset manager with nearly $5 trillion in assets under management, has maintained a partnership with UC Investments for over two decades. Currently, State Street manages $110bn of UC Investments’ $193bn investment portfolio.

In addition to asset management, State Street provides essential investment software platforms and services globally.

For UC Investments, this initiative underscores a commitment to increasing financial inclusion.

In 2024, the institution opened the Blue & Gold Endowment Pool to individual retirement savers. This follows their 2017 collaboration with State Street on an annuity solution for UC Retirement Savings Plan participants.

UC Investments chief investment officer Jagdeep Singh Bachher said: “We’re proud to expand our partnership with State Street to deliver the kinds of insights, tools, and investment access that have historically been reserved for large institutions or ultra-wealthy investors.”
