IBM said that Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), a Thai lender, has adopted IBM zSystems platform for its core-banking applications for supporting the agile microservice development of new services and products.

IBM zSystems is expected to help the bank run banking and finance applications that support huge customer data as well as online transactions. The platform will also enable Siam Commercial Bank in ensuring high availability and reliability round-the-clock to its customers.

Additionally, the Thai bank has adopted IBM z/OS Connect for enabling RESTFul APIs in its core banking applications on IBM zSystems.

Siam Commercial Bank chief information officer Dharittee Kritsernvong said: “As we have grown our online and mobile customer base exponentially and more and more customers are choosing to manage their finances, renew their car insurance or ask for home loans via digital channels, we put our customers at the centre and decided to bring access to the latest data on IBM zSystems via any device to our customer-facing team, to make it more convenient to serve our customers on the go, within the regulatory guidelines.”

According to IBM, the modernisation will help the Thai bank to safeguard millions of dollars of investment on its current platform.

Besides, the modernisation will reduce the time required for developing and deploying, increase the reusability, enhance the scalability, accelerate the response time, and streamline the integration of its core IT infrastructure.

IBM said that by bringing together the security, availability, performance, and the agility of application development through RESTful APIs, the bank can offer innovative customer-centric and customised products and services.

The tech major added that information of customers can be queried directly from data on IBM zSystems that is privacy-protected and regulatory-compliant.

IBM Thailand technology group country manager Surarit Wuwong said: “IBM zSystems have formed the technology backbone of the global economy for decades, are valued by two thirds of the Fortune 100 as a highly secured platform for running their most trusted workloads, and are today central to modern hybrid cloud environments.

“With 70% of global transactions on a value basis running on IBM zSystems, its today-and-future development roadmap will ensure SCB and its customers of the highest levels of performance, scalability, security, and availability for years to come.”
