Mobility in Harmony (MIH) consortium, a Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn)-initiated group, has selected intelligent security software and services provider BlackBerry to advance its next-generation electric vehicle (EV) development initiatives.
Established in 2021, the consortium aims to build an open ecosystem to transform and expedite innovation within the EV sector.
Under the terms of the agreement, BlackBerry will provide the foundation for the MIH consortium’s next-generation platform.
The Foxconn-initiated group will also leverage a portfolio of BlackBerry software and services to act as the safe and secure software foundation for its open EV platform with a unique modular design approach.
Besides, the MIH consortium will use BlackBerry QNX product suite and cloud-connected, automotive artificial intelligence (AI) platform, BlackBerry IVY.
It includes QNX Software Development Platform (SDP 7.1) licenses, QNX middleware technologies and engineering professional services for system-level integration, performance optimisation, and solution validation.

MIH consortium’s EV project, Project X, is scheduled to be released in Japan later this year. It will be a single-row three-seater aimed at Asian consumers.
The consortium will also release six-seater and nine-seater vehicle platforms in the coming years to provide more vehicle segment choices and to enable greater innovation.
