Mexico-based banking services provider BanCoppel has selected Swiss banking software provider Temenos to power the former’s technological transformation and bolster modern banking services.

The Temenos core banking platform will allow the bank to continue to grow efficiently and deliver an integrated ecosystem of seamless and accessible banking services.

By deploying the Temenos core banking platform, BanCoppel aims to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability along with support for its digital transformation project.

BanCoppel offers micro-loans for small purchases with a store credit to the low-income population of Mexico since 1941.

The bank is part of Grupo Coppel, which includes brands such as Afore Coppel and Tiendas Coppel.

BanCoppel digital transformation and operations IT director Juan Manuel Fernández Islas said: “Our objective with this partnership with Temenos is to continue being the favourite bank of the popular class in Mexico, providing solutions that improve their quality of life.

“This transformation project will increase efficiency by creating an open ecosystem with easy integration through APIs, which will allow us to create easy, simple and more accessible banking services.”

According to Temenos, it will support BanCoppel’s vision to generate a more inclusive, sustainable and socially responsible future.

Besides, the banking software provider expects to help the bank with its technology, extensive expertise in Mexico and strong reputation with existing customers.

Temenos Latin America and the Caribbean sales senior vice president Rodrigo Silva said: “The Temenos platform is perfectly aligned to deliver BanCoppel’s vision of creating exceptional customer experiences powered by modern technology.

“With Temenos, BanCoppel will be able to increase efficiency, respond quickly to customer demands, and innovate faster. Temenos’ open platform will help BanCoppel to scale and benefit from new business models built around its retail brands.”

Last month, Puerto Rico-based Segura Bank chose Temenos to drive the launch of a new digital bank in the cloud in Latin America.

Segura Bank would operate Temenos’ banking platform on Microsoft Azure to provide faster banking services at lower cost.
