ACCA partners with Uzbekistan’s Chamber on public sector audit

The two bodies agreed on an eight‑area cooperation framework that includes improving public sector audit quality.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chamber of Accounts of Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) setting out plans to extend joint work in the field of public sector auditing.

The agreement is intended to support the strengthening of professional skills and contribute to the evolution of the country’s public finance and audit landscape.

ACCA Central Asia, Armenia and Mongolia cluster head Zhanna Iskenova said: “This MoU builds on our ongoing cooperation and reflects a shared commitment to strengthening public sector audit capacity in line with international standards.

“Through this partnership, ACCA is pleased to support the continued professional development of auditors and contribute to the strengthening of the public finance system.”

Under the MoU, the two bodies have defined a cooperative framework covering eight main areas of activity.

Among these are efforts to raise the quality of public sector audit practices and measures to assist the Chamber of Accounts’ personnel in pursuing internationally recognised professional qualifications.

The collaboration also envisages learning and training programmes aligned with international standards, together with “joint initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and good governance”.

Chamber of Accounts of Uzbekistan chairman Mekhriddin Abdullaev said: “The signing of the MoU with ACCA opens up new opportunities for the Chamber of Accounts to implement international standards, develop the professional competencies of our staff and build a modern public audit system.

“This is an important step in implementing the objectives set out in the Presidential Decree and in strengthening the institutional capacity of the Chamber of Accounts.”

In December last year, the ACCA and the Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants agreed to bolster their partnership to support sustainable accountancy collaboration in Indonesia.
