Islamic financial institution Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) said that it has shifted a significant portion of its workloads and applications, including customer-facing platforms and core banking applications, to the Azure Cloud.

The UAE-based bank said the migration will advance its current infrastructure to a cloud-based ecosystem to deliver seamless and convenient banking service experiences to customers.

ADIB stated that it has been transforming its legacy applications and technical systems along with tapping the benefits of the cloud ecosystem. The objective of this is to improve service availability, introduce new customer experiences, and digitise banking operations.

ADIB group chief information officer Ashley Veasey said: “We migrated to the cloud in recognition of the need to create an environment that is optimised for rapid changes and that will help in rolling out our digitisation strategy to better cater to the constantly evolving needs of customers.

”With this migration, ADIB is now able to deliver new applications rapidly, while adhering to the highest standards of security.”

The last three years have seen ADIB invest in technology initiatives with the intention to make banking more convenient for its users.

These include the initiation of an extensive re-architecture of the bank’s technology and investment in advanced analytics and machine learning services to support customers in making better informed financial decisions.

Cloud-managed services provider Cloud4C was chosen by ADIB to collaborate on the digital transformation project.

The firm is said to be an Azure expert engaged in providing advanced cloud-managed services as well as a range of cloud services.

Cloud4C MEA regional director Rakesh Reddy said: “This is the largest single-phase migration in the region involving hundreds of core applications and thousands of servers. Post a thorough assessment of the existing landscape, a tailored Azure cloud migration blueprint was chalked out by Cloud4C’s Azure team.

”Once completed, the implementation was performed fail-proof, with dedicated Azure advanced networking, server migration, application migration, DR setup, and support services.”

In June 2023, Cloud4C and open API banking fintech Codebase Technologies joined forces to offer digital financial enterprises in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with risk-proofed digital transformation journeys.
