Afena Federal Credit Union has partnered with MDT, a credit union service organisation (CUSO) specialising in financial technology ecosystems, to advance its digital transformation efforts.

As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Afena Credit Union is committed to addressing financial challenges for individuals regardless of socio-economic status.

Since March 2008, MDT has been a strategic partner, helping the credit union optimise resources and embrace innovation to meet evolving member expectations.

Their collaboration aims to enhance member experience by integrating advanced digital functionalities, offering convenience, security, and financial empowerment.

Afena Federal Credit Union CEO and president Karen Madry said: “At Afena, we believe that the best partnerships are built on trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for success, and that is exactly what we have found in MDT.

“Their flexibility, expertise and client-first approach have played an integral role in supporting our tech advancements, allowing us to enhance member experiences while staying true to our mission.

“Their dedication to client success, industry expertise and personalised support has made them a critical part of our journey, helping us bring modern, convenient and secure financial solutions to the communities we serve.”

Recently, Afena Credit Union launched Jack Henry’s Banno to improve its digital banking experience, featuring enhanced security, seamless navigation, and an intuitive interface.

Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) functionality was also added, enabling members to manage finances with greater ease and efficiency, thereby strengthening member retention.

MDT played a crucial role in ensuring the timely and effective completion of these features.

Afena has also introduced new tools, including online account opening, loan applications, an automated lending solution, credit score monitoring, and a complete website overhaul.

The initiatives aim to provide robust functionality and resources to improve members’ financial well-being.

MDT supports over 100 credit unions with cloud-based solutions, expert consulting, and digital transformation strategies.

By hosting the Symitar core processing system from Jack Henry, MDT equips credit unions with the necessary tools and technology to remain competitive.

MDT’s collaborative approach focuses on partnership, security, and compliance, leveraging industry expertise to meet each institution’s unique needs and foster long-term success.

MDT chief project officer Dan Schneider said: “Afena Federal Credit Union, with its people-first approach to banking, is committed to meeting its members where they are, whether through cutting-edge digital banking solutions, accessible lending options or simply being a reliable partner in their financial journey.

“We are proud to be a strategic partner, helping the credit union navigate the current financial technology landscape in such a way that aligns with their unique goals, member needs and financial sustainability.

“We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Afena, ensuring that their members have the support, resources and financial tools they need to thrive.”
